The inability of the ‘powers that be’ to make a Manny Pacquiao vs Floyd Mayweather fight has left boxing with the alternative, Manny Pacquiao vs Juan Manuel Marquez IV.Boxing fans seem to have mixed feelings about seeing this fight again.
On one hand, Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather should have fought twice already. At this point, they could be milking an eight figure payday to face each other for the pound-for-pound title, giving boxing fans a chance to see the best two fighters in the sport face each other.
There’s no need to elaborate on all of the barriers that prevented this fight from happening, as it seems boxing fans are starting to get tired of hearing about it. The value and validity of Pacquiao vs Mayweather has diminished due to the inability to make it happen, but people still want to see it to some degree. On the other hand, we have seen Pacquiao and Marquez in three extremely close and action-packed bouts. People will pay to see the fourth fight because of how good the previous three were.
Although we won’t get to see Pacquiao and Mayweather on December 8th, fans should relish the opportunity to see two current pound-for-pound fighters and boxing legends go to battle once more.
Questionable Decisions
A lot of fans were disappointed with the result of the third fight. Juan Manuel Marquez seemed to control the action and win a close but definite decision – However, the judges gave it to Pacquiao.

I thought Marquez won the fight. Even though some of the rounds were close, I couldn’t really find a way to give Pacquiao the win. But regardless of how we feel about it, Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez are going to fight again.
Of the three fights they’ve had so far, some, like myself, believed Marquez should have been awarded the first (which was ruled a draw) and last November’s meeting. Fans who have issues with the previous decision can’t help but pose the question, “Will the judges get it right this time?”
The recent questionable decisions have left a bad taste in the mouths of some boxing fans.
And while poor or highly disputed decisions diminish the credibility of the sport, all three Pacquiao vs Marquez bouts were very exciting and close enough to go either way, to some degree.
Looking Forward
This leaves us with another bout that will probably be close and intriguing if there is no knockout. So we are faced with another question: “Will the result of Pacquiao vs Marquez IV affect a Mayweather vs Pacquiao fight. The answer: Perhaps it will affect the level public interest and the bargaining chips between the two camps. But at the end of the day, fans will get to see a competitive and action-filled fight between two future Hall of Famers. We should be excited to see this fight again. I know I am.
